The Role

The Café in The Park is looking for highly motivated people to join our amazing team, undertaking duties including food preparation, basic cooking and serving of food and drinks to the public in a positive and welcoming manner.

Run by the Society of St James, Cafe in the Park is so much more than just great food in a beautiful setting. Our dedicated team provides employment and training opportunities for people who have experienced homelessness and substance misuse.

You do not have to have experienced homelessness and substance misuse to work at our Café but you must have an understanding of these issues and an ability to work with a range of Staff and Volunteers who have. Due to the nature of the work you will need to be 18 or over to apply. There will also be a need to work some Saturdays.

As a Receptionist, you will provide a friendly and efficient service to our clients and their animals. You will need to be able to work well in a team as well as working individually, however support from your colleagues is always available. You must have the ability to remain calm under pressure and also show empathy in every situation you encounter, from sharing the joy of a puppy’s first visit to the vet or comforting a client who has received bad news.

The day-to-day duties of this role will include answering phones, responding to emails, making appointments, registering new clients, filling out insurance forms, administering medications, taking payments, and providing a warm and welcoming experience to our clients who come to the clinic.

Experience as a receptionist or customer facing experience is essential. Previous veterinary experience would also be beneficial, but training will be provided. Most importantly, we are looking for a team player who is flexible and adaptable – as there are so many facets to this role, we need someone who thinks fast and is willing to learn!

The salary for this position will be in line with the National Minimum Wage + 3% cost of living increase.
