Technical Director (Building Materials)

1. Position Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Technical Director / Chief Technical Engineer with deep expertise in mortar and powder, waterproofing materials, coatings, adhesives, and related construction materials. The role is responsible for providing technical leadership across product development, application guidance, quality improvement, and technical enablement for overseas sales teams and distributors.

This position plays a critical role in supporting our expansion in Southeast Asia by ensuring product competitiveness, technical excellence, and localized adaptation.

2. Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Product Development
• Lead technical evaluations and product localization for mortar and powder, waterproofing materials, tile adhesives, skim coat, grouts, and other building materials.
• Collaborate with R&D centers in China to adjust formulas for different climate conditions, substrates, and construction habits in Southeast Asia.
• Conduct product performance testing, material selection, and continuous optimization.

Technical Enablement & Sales Support
• Provide technical training to sales teams, distributors, and key customers on product features, application methods, and competitive advantages.
• Develop technical manuals, application guides, training materials, onsite demo processes, and troubleshooting SOPs.
• Join major customer visits to provide technical consultation, solution design, and convince clients through technical expertise.
• Offer pre-sales and after-sales technical support for large projects, contractors, and construction companies.

Quality Control & Project Management
• Oversee production quality for OEM/contract manufacturing plants; ensure all products meet company standards.
• Support plant audits, raw material assessments, and formulation adjustments on-site.
• Work with QC teams to analyze product failures, complaint cases, and propose corrective actions.

Market & Competitor Analysis
• Study market requirements, construction standards, and competitor products in SEA markets.
• Provide technical insights to help optimize product positioning, pricing, and sales strategies.
• Evaluate industry trends and emerging technologies in mortar and waterproofing materials.

3. Requirements

Professional Background
• 5+ years of technical experience in mortar and powder, waterproofing materials, adhesives, coatings, or similar building materials.
• Hands-on experience with formulations, onsite application, QC processes, and construction material testing.
• Experience in Southeast Asia markets is a strong advantage.
• Past experience in technical centers, labs, or senior application engineering roles preferred.

Technical Skills
Deep knowledge of:
• mortar and powder formulations (plaster, skim coat, putty, tile adhesives, grouts, etc.)
• Waterproofing membranes, coatings, polymer-modified materials
• Construction substrates, climate impact, surface treatment
• Material testing standards (ASTM, EN, JIS, local SEA standards)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and product optimization skills.

Leadership & Communication
• Strong cross-cultural communication skills, able to train and lead teams across multiple countries.
• Ability to work with both technical and commercial teams; bridge R&D with sales.
• Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in fast-growing overseas markets.

Education
• Bachelor’s degree or above in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related fields.

Languages
• Proficiency in English is required; Bahasa Indonesia
• Chinese proficiency is an advantage but not mandatory.
